What are your current goals and why?

My goal starting the program was to improve my body image. I have made huge progress to that goal. My current goal is to improve my running performance and train for a full marathon (my first one since before I started vet school).

What keeps you motivated?

I just turned 33 and realizing that I only have one body and I really need to take care of it has motivated me a lot. Running is a huge outlet for me mentally, physically, and emotionally. I run better when my body is taken care of. I want to keep this progress and make it a lifestyle, not a phase.

Why is it important to you to live a healthy lifestyle?

I have a family history of a lot of health issues - type 2 diabetes, kidney disease, heart disease, insomnia, depression. I want to be the healthiest version of myself that I can be. Once I turned 30 it was a lot harder managing health and fitness with my career, family, etc. I’m 33 this year and I want to live life and enjoy the things and people I love.

What is your most memorable experience in this program?

It’s hard to pick just one experience. Crossing the finish line of 2 races was huge. Exploring a more plant-centric lifestyle was intriguing. Having a coach in my corner was refreshing. One of the things I really loved was the camaraderie of the group and our holiday gift exchange. It was nice to feel a part of something. We come from all walks of life and have different fitness goals, but it was really fun to come together from all over and celebrate together.

BRIGHT SPOTS. Hype up your accomplishments, what are you most proud of so far since starting the program?

I have improved my body image so much and that has really helped with my confidence. Body image is something I have struggled with my entire life. My coach always tells me that my weight is the least interesting thing about me and I really needed to hear that a few times, especially when I was having setbacks. I have also learned a lot about fueling my body for performance, managing stress, and drinking enough water - really focusing on the foundation of being healthy. I ran 2 half marathons since starting the program and I’m training for a full marathon now!
